Crypto Copy Trading: Mechanics, Risk Controls, and Execution Strategies
Arkham Research's new guide on crypto copy trading lays out the execution mechanics, and the behavioral data inside it tells the harder story: follower conduct consistently overrides leader skill.

A 2020 controlled experiment published in Management Science found that merely exposing subjects to information about other traders' success significantly increased their risk-taking — and adding a direct copy option pushed risk-taking higher still.
The execution stack: four required modules
Every copy-trading system — whether a retail app or a custom crypto bot — runs on the same four components, per Arkham's breakdown:
- Signal source: the leader account, wallet, or data feed being copied. Performance history should be independently verifiable (exchange-audited or on-chain) rather than self-reported.
- Execution engine: middleware that receives each new leader position and converts it into a proportional order sized to the follower's allocated capital and risk parameters.
- Risk controls: per-leader exposure caps, an independent stop-loss, and an automatic unfollow trigger when drawdown crosses a set threshold. Without these, a streak of bad trades can wipe the follower's account.
- Monitoring: real-time dashboard or alert layer exposing copied positions, entry prices, and live exposure.
A separate Journal of Business Research study using 16,964 observations on eToro found that copying an experienced trader can replicate positive leader-level results — but only when the follower actively manages their own risk exposure.
Bybit's profit-share settlement, in numbers
Bybit's Master Trader program runs on a fixed weekly cycle and a strict pre-deduction rule. Settlement spans Saturday 00:00 UTC to Friday 23:59:59 UTC. Each day, the system pre-deducts the applicable share of follower profit in advance. At 03:00 UTC every Monday, 10% of the cycle's overall net profit is credited to the Master Trader's Funding Account.
Three settlement rules shape actual cash flows:
1. Profit share only distributes if all USDT Perpetual positions opened on the same day are fully closed before settlement.
2. If the actual share owed is lower than the pre-deducted amount, the excess returns to the follower's Funding Account.
3. If the follower ends the cycle with net loss, the pre-deducted share is refunded and the Master Trader receives nothing.
Master Trader rank — Cadet, Bronze, Silver, Gold — sets the profit-sharing ratio, visible to followers on the Master Trader Profile page.
Two concurrent platform moves
Two infrastructure shifts landed in the same window. Per a Moomoo alert, Robinhood began rolling out crypto trading in the UK through Bitstamp. Separately, multi-asset broker Rock-West completed its rebrand to rewalt: and confirmed plans to release a next-generation Copy-Trading Engine shortly after the launch of its rewalt: Card.
